Out of the spotlight.
The writer is both everywhere and nowhere in the story. That is, the story is undeniably all-writer, but the writer herself will not be in the story. The best stories are those where you listen to the story, not to the writer.
So, I say, on top of a street light is perfect place to write in. I can see the world below - and it's a beautiful world, a colorful world, lit by the lights that are actually right with me - but me myself isn't visible. As I shouldn't be.

This is a neat idea. I love the idea of being above it all. It's made me wonder how much of me is visible in my stories. For starters nearly all of my MCs are women.

ReplyDeleteOf course, I agree with you there, but I learned early to get out my own way and let the characters do their thing.

ReplyDeleteHello fellow Crusader! Your post reminded me of writers being the ones in control of a spotlight. If Shakespeare said "All the world's a stage" then writers are the ones who control the spotlight in their own productions. We direct the action for the audience.
